Chickens Eating A Mouse

Chickens Eating A Mouse

Most people don’t know that chickens love to eat mice, but if you think about it, just like hawks, eagles and other large birds, chickens have the beaks to tear apart these diseased, horse feed, eating rodents. When the cat ran about 30 mice out of the feed room. Jessica video taped this footage of her chickens going crazy over the mouse she dangled in front of their face. Excellent chicken food! Sorry if this is too graphic. I guess you are either rooting for the hens and rooster or the mouse. If the chicken didn’t get the mouse first then either the cats or the copperhead and rat snakes would.

About the Chicken.
==============
Source Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicken

Chickens are omnivores.[10] In the wild, they often scratch at the soil to search for seeds, insects and even larger animals such as lizards or young mice.[11]
Chickens may live for five to ten years, depending on the breed.[12] The world’s oldest chicken, a hen, died of heart failure at the age of 16 according to the Guinness Book of World Records.[13]
Roosters can usually be differentiated from hens by their striking plumage of long flowing tails and shiny, pointed feathers on their necks (hackles) and backs (saddle) which are typically of brighter, bolder colours than those of females of the same breed. However, in some breeds, such as the Sebright, the rooster has only slightly pointed neck feathers, the same color as the hen’s. The identification can be made by looking at the comb, or eventually from the development of spurs on the male’s legs (in a few breeds and in certain hybrids, the male and female chicks may be differentiated by color). Adult chickens have a fleshy crest on their heads called a comb, or cockscomb, and hanging flaps of skin either side under their beaks called wattles. Collectively, these and other fleshy protuberances on the head and throat are called caruncles. Both the adult male and female have wattles and combs, but in most breeds these are more prominent in males. A muff or beard is a mutation found in several chicken breeds which causes extra feathering under the chicken’s face, giving the appearance of a beard.
Domestic chickens are not capable of long distance flight, although lighter birds are generally capable of flying for short distances, such as over fences or into trees (where they would naturally roost). Chickens may occasionally fly briefly to explore their surroundings, but generally do so only to flee perceived danger.

If you arrived at this video looking for Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) or Chicken Recipes, maybe I will add some videos later, but we have been raising chickens for their eggs. I have another video showing how to boil eggs.http://youtu.be/MVNcI7dEcS0 I’ll post a chicken salad recipe since that is a hot topic on youtube along with chicken noodle soup. I personally like Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC), but I go through the drive through for that and keep my live chickens as pets.

What do I need to raise pet chickens?
============================
Start with building a chicken coop and make sure there is a chicken run at least double the size if not more than the hen house. Make sure there are no spaces or holes in the chicken wire that a fox or other predator can get through. Make sure the chicken wire is buried deep enough around the chicken run that a fox can’t dig under because they will. Build your chicken coops or coop then talk to a feed store about what is the right chicken feed for your Roosters, hens and/ or chicks. (I’ll post a video later how we made a chicken coop with cheap and scrap wood). Get the feed specific to what or how you are raising your chickens. Now that you are set to fill your coop, you can start looking for chickens for sale. The local newspaper classified ads or the trading post is a great start. You can go right to the internet too, but it may be harder to narrow your search to your area. Check out chicken tractors too. Chicken tractors make a safe and portable way to move your chicken’s scratching area while protecting them from predators.

Please subscribe to channel if you slightly enjoy the horse farm antics. We do from time to time show educational and informative videos. Although this video is education if you didn’t know chickens love to eat mice.

Shanghai, China (Shanghai Museum and Flower, Bird, Fish & Insect Market)

Shanghai, China (Shanghai Museum and Flower, Bird, Fish & Insect Market)

Shanghai, China (Shanghai Museum and Flower, Bird, Fish & Insect Market)
The Shanghai Museum is a museum of ancient Chinese art, situated on the People’s Square in the Huangpu District of Shanghai, China.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shanghai_Museum
http://www.shanghaimuseum.net/en/

When you first walk into the Shanghai’s Flower, Bird, Fish & Insect Market through a small corridor packed with people, you’ll hear a cacophony of cats meowing, birds calling, and dogs barking, which of course, seems par for the course in any pet shop around the world. But as you walk through the narrow alleyways that make up the market and poke your head into the individual stalls, you’ll see shell-less turtles trying to crawl from their tanks, pink, naked-looking frogs splashing in their tiny fish bowls and wire-caged chinchillas looking particularly shell-shocked.

Like many things in China, the market makes for a complete sensory overload. Perhaps most overwhelming is the multiplicity of crickets for sale; you can buy them in small paper boxes, plastic canisters, tiny little cages with wire doors or, most popularly, in wicker, circular baskets. If you don’t know Chinese lore, crickets bring good luck, but they also can carry an extraordinary price tag—some go for $1000 or more. Cricket fighting is a big deal in China, and a well-raised cricket can be a gem to the lucky purchaser.

CHINA: BIRD MAN OF BEIJING

CHINA: BIRD MAN OF BEIJING

Mandarin/Nat

Caged birds have long been a favourite pet for many Chinese people.

And with vast numbers of unemployed workers looking for odd jobs to bring home much needed funds, many have turned to raising birds.

Though many breed the birds purely for financial gain, some take great pains to train their birds — just for the love of it.

With an estimated 300-thousand bird breeders in Beijing alone, the city’s bird markets are getting more and more crowded.

On a typical weekend, throngs of people invade the Jade Dragonfly Bridge market to trade in the feathered pets.

If the crowds of people seem dense, the crowds of birds in small cages are even more tightly packed.

Hundreds of thousands of brightly-coloured birds compete for space in tiny metal prisons.

Though most deal in birds to make money, some do it purely out of passion.

50 year-old Mr Zhuang is one such person.

Mr Zhuang carefully scrutinizes the parrots on offer in this crowded market, determined not to go home with an empty cage.

But if most birds are doomed to crowded lives in tiny cages — or, at best, lonely existences with no chance to fly — Mr Zhuang has a happier fate in mind for his parrots.

Most people simply train their birds to sing.

But Mr Zhuang has trained his twenty birds to fly away — and come home at the call of a whistle.

Everyday, the cage is opened and the parrots go off for an afternoon fly.

Some simply enjoy a nice perch on a tree.

Others brave the skies and even go for a fly with feathered friends of different species.

Feeding over twenty birds is something of a financial burden.

But Mr Zhuang feels it is well worth it.

SOUNDBITE: (Mandarin)
“I need to find something interesting in my life. And when these birds fly in the sky, my heart lightens. I can forget all of my worries and unhappiness.”
SUPER CAPTION: Zhuang Kuiqing, parrot trainer

Mr Zhuang may wish he could fly over the grey roofs of his run-down neighborhood himself.

But when he sees his parrots soar above his home, he can be content just to watch.

MEXICO: CRACKDOWN PLANNED ON ILLEGAL EXPORTS OF RARE BIRDS TO US

MEXICO: CRACKDOWN PLANNED ON ILLEGAL EXPORTS OF RARE BIRDS TO US

Spanish/Nat

Mexican authorities are concerned about the large number of exotic birds being smuggled into the U-S.

Scores of birds from endangered species are taken into the U-S illegally for sale in pet shops and in the black markets.

Authorities in Mexico and several U-S organisations are trying to join forces to crack down on the illegal bird trade.

This is Tijuana on the border between Mexico and the United States.

Here, thousands of Americans and Mexicans living in the U-S purchase a wide range of goods – at lower prices – to take back home.

Exotic tropical birds like these are commonly sold in the streets of Tijuana.

Locals can buy certain species and keep them as pets.

But many others are buying these birds to smuggle them across the border and sell them illegally in the U-S.

Many of these feathered creatures are endangered species protected by Mexican law.

SOUNDBITE: (Spanish)
“In Mexico there are 20 registered species of birds related to the parakeets, parrots and macaws. Of those 20 species, 13 are already under a protective status, 6 already have the status of endangered species and 7 are under the status of severely threatened.”
SUPER CAPTION: Federico Cota, National Resource Inspector for the Federal Bureau for the Protection of the Environment

These birds were rescued during a recent raid at a Tijuana pet shop.

They have been taken back to this refuge where they will be examined and then returned to their natural habitat.

Authorities are trying to join forces with U-S organisations to crack down on bird smugglers.

But demand abroad is high and smugglers are resorting to new tactics.

Many dye the birds’ feathers to disguise them and pass them as legal species.

Once they make it across the border, the birds can be sold legally if the shop owner can prove that they were born and bred in the U-S.

SOUNDBITE: (Spanish)
“What happens is that many times these birds are taken into the U-S illegally. Many birds which are apparently bred in captivity are taken into the U-S illegally and the eggs are being extracted, hatched in breeding places and being smuggled with papers showing they were bred in captivity at home.”
SUPER CAPTION: Federico Cota, National Resource Inspector for the Federal Bureau for the Protection of the Environment

Most birds are captured in Central Mexico where environmentalists have seen an alarming decrease in their number.

Certain species are allowed to be captured and sold during specific seasons.

But the law is lenient – a person found selling a protected species can only receive a fine.

However, Mexican bird lovers believe every little effort is a big step in helping these creatures return to nature.
