Parrots should always be weighed in grams to be able to successfully spot early signs of illness.

Tracking your bird’s weight is a great tool for:
– Keeping your bird healthy
– Catching early signs of illness
– Understanding how certain foods affect weight loss/gain
– Finding an average weight for your bird by weighing at the same time every day for at least a week (vets love having this info!)
– Knowing if you should have a training session and when (some birds train best before meals, while some will train after or even with 1/2 a meal.)
– Getting your bird accustomed to being weighed will make vet visits go more smoothly
– You will become used to certain times of year your bird’s weight may naturally fluctuate with its appetite

LOVE THIS! Cressi is the cutest!

Just a little extra tip regarding differences between scales. If you suspect that your scale is not calibrated the same as your vet’s scale, the easiest thing to do is take a solid object (like a bird toy with a flat side) and measure it every time before or after measuring your bird. If the object weights the same each time, than you can be assured the scale is working properly. Also, when you go to the vet with all your data, bring that same object and have the vet weight it as well to determine if there are any differences between the two scales. As Jamie said “happy scaling” lol

My CAG weighs 467grams before breakfast each day, never changes. but her breast bone seems to stick out a bit, my vet has never said anything but she hasn’t been in a while, this makes me a bit worried , maybe i should make her an appointment !?!

Hey I’ve been looking into buying a bird and I’m thinking about a Green cheeked or a Ringneck. What do you think. Btw I’m looking for a medium sized bird and something kinda quite but playful and can has the opportunity to talk (doesn’t have to be good) . Side not I noticed that you live in the same town as me do you have a store or something that’s close by because I love your toys and think that your food is awesome. Thanks

Thank you! Had a very nice discussion with my vet about this and my new caique last week. Always nice to have extra little tips and practices to add on.

Comet is such a star, his personality is what I hope for in a bird. Cressi said "spin" she is such a lover!

We weight our cockatiel weekly or if I think she is not eating, then I weight her each day until I am sure she is fine. She runs between 86 and 89 grams. Love to you hand healing from your flock loss. have a great day.
