So someone in the comments raised an interesting point.

This video was primarily supposed to be about the behavioural reasons behind allowing/not allowing your bird on your head.

However it should be mentioned that you should also not allow your bird on your head if you regularly use hair products such as sprays etc. These could be harmful if consumed over time.

cockatiel has been hormonal for the past month and I had a sneaking suspicion why she wanted to keep climbing my head to get up top. This just confirmed it. Thanks!

Thank you. My little gcc loves being on my head and he always comes down when i ask him. I just bought a sun today and this little guy is so happy to have a home my hesrt has melted ten thousand times. He has climbed up on my head but also came down when i reached up for him. Thank you for educating everyone on the myth that parrots should not sit atop your head.

How do we properly get them off our head ? 🙂

    • @khalid5447

My 3 month Cockatiel only wants to sit on my head which I find uncomfortable

Thank you for sharing this and I don’t just mean pickle’s dance moves.

It's true height dominance isn't a thing but my concern is you can't read their body language to know if they're going to bite or something.

    • @TeddyCrochet

This helps so much thank you! My new baby is only 9 weeks old and went on my head a few times. He got stuck in my hair and I was like "see i told you dont go up there" he panicked and could get hurt or hurt me in the process so generally I plan to discourage it. I also use products in my hair so better dafe than sorry ❤🦜

Thank you so much for this video! The only avian vet in my area told me this myth, she actually said to keep my bird below my chest otherwise he would get hormonal and be dominant, she also said it was like i was having sex with him, she also talked about patting my birds head so I would be dominant (she also recommended seed and vitamin water diets 😬), needless to say i do not go there and i go to a different vet with an avian certified veterinarian working there.

I don't let my birds on my head, cause I don't want poo in my hair lol
I assume birds just think you are a tree.
Sometimes I hold my arms and hands up over my head, high up, and my birds fly over to them.
      Pretty sure I am really a tree…

I love this! 💛💛💛💛💛 Pickles was getting her dance on also! 💃🏽

    • @homean1

Very good to hear! I saw this mentioned somewhere and was just thinking (I didnt actually know) that it sounded silly. We did have a couple times when our female cockatiels tails were essentially a windshield wiper across our faces so yes to no on top of the head when theyre hormonal lol

Also just an update on that weird dance thing my green cheek conure is doing. I forgot to mention his previous owner clipped all but one, on each side, of the blue flight feathers… so I think thats part of it. He seems to do it relatively in the direction he would like to travel either to us or cage or back again.

    • @adamwilliamson3234

      Great video, good advice.

    • @GrimdarkGamers

Awesome video, thanks. This is something I always thought was weird as I just couldn't see it from my own experiences. Good to hear it's been debunked.

If I am home Pearl rides around on my head like a little queen.
