In today’s video, Luna the 11 year old cockatiel learns how to play with toys! If you want to teach this to your bird, grab a box of our tiny toys (all natural and hand made!) and teach your bird to target first. This will help in your success teaching this behavior you saw us work on in a masterclass hosted by @Snake Discovery!

BirdTricks says:

Does toy playing come naturally to your bird? What natural toy part material is your bird's favorite to tear apart?

WildSpirit66 says:

how do u guys do this kind of stuff i had my cockatiel for one year and nothing he does not trust me at all i give him food from my hand when he will let me i wish someone could just train him for me

Markus says:

Wow, i love the feather colors of this cockatiel

Cristine G says:

My teil likes to shred the paper plates I give him for his veggies. And he loves toilet paper rolls, those are hard to get the glue off though. And he loves to shred cardboard. I gave up on toys since the boxes are more fun. Lol!

Fukai Kokoro says:

Hemp seeds are my favorite. So yummy.

Hemp milk is so much better than other alternative milks.

Fun fact it takes a ENTIRE gallon of water to grow one almond.

Doffyifiyyif says:

This is the perfect video for me right now I’m struggling to get my bird to engage with toys I was actually considering doing a consultation with you guys because of it. My only problem is that she’s sick and most days I can’t even get a training session in with her and if I am able to get just a few reps in before she quits on me. So I don’t know if copying this video is possible for me. It’s sad there’s so much I wanted to teach her…..

itZ Lizzie says:

Dang i am late but this video is rlly helpful to me since my birds are scared whenever I try to teach them how to play with toys. They do like to shred a lot but they're just scared whenever they see toys

AquariusMoon says:

This cockatiel's mamma is wonderful – lucky bird.

danyo1301 says:

Oh damn, a cockatiel video here? I always felt like they were completely dismissed in this channel, was wondering if that had a reason or not honestly

Anthony Harvey says:

So cool keep up the good work

Kimberley Kemmer says:

Cockatiels are so fricken smart, it's ridiculous! I can't believe how fast Luna catches on to things. Truly impressive.

Amber Brown Tibbitts says:

This video has come at a perfect time. We unexpectedly added a new member to our flock about two weeks ago. Animal control caught a cockatiel after he had a window strike at one of the local YMCAs and brought him to the main office and no one had claimed him. We decided to foster/home him so he wasnt just stuck in an office all day. We only had experience with conures and a pionus so far, so we are still learning with him. I'm excited to teach him to play!

Judy Mandolado says:

More videos with Doug. Woo HOO

Denise Wood says:

Lovely kindness loving kindness for birds and people. All are amazing and such teachers you are. I respect you and love you guys so much.

James Bartlett says:

i love your bird and your video

Meg Conroy says:

Omg I love Luna! ❤️ and her owner was 👌 fabulous. Gives me hope that me and Putin will get better. I had to show Putin how to play and encourage foraging.
My budgie Biden was desperate for toys after only having super hard plastic ones when rescued.
My canary Chopin loves the outside of bells and anything grassy. x

Angel Scinta says:

Kobe and Paco will literally play with anything.

Carol Hartley says:

Great job, "THE MORE THEY KNOW!"♥️🤣

Catherine Fraser says:

I had thought foraging would be a natural way to transition to destroying toys. I guess that is learned behaviour too!

Brickelle Gregory says:

I'm so glad to see Birdtricks doing a cockatiel video! My girl has been great about destroying toys since the day I got her but I just did the same kind of training with my conure and now she loves the birdtricks tiny toys!

Aaron Jesko says:

Luna is so sweet. What a lovely bird. She seems so relaxed and calm. 🤍

P. Mary YaYaBear says:

Luna is cute.

BirdNerdSophie says:

This is exactly how we taught our rescues to play with toys! Good job Luna! 🦜

TheParrotTeacher says:

Loads of people seem to forget that you sometimes need to teach parrots to play with toys (just like with human children!)

Good to see another video promoting it!

eclipsestar5 says:

I had planned to originally do a follow-up video on progress but sadly Luna passed away while in a procedure for eggbinding a couple months ago now… So glad I can come back and watch this when I miss her… 💔💖

Sandy Batsios says:

What is the treat please….

kevgg19 says:

Yey!! Cockatiel video!!

just B says:

That was a fun one. Teaching her how to play
